Four Ways To Make Dress Up Shopping Sustainable (Hello Easter Bunny!)

Dress-up clothes are often designed for one-time use and not made of sustainable materials. You'll find they can be cheaply made, even if they carry a high price point. Formal attire often coincides with the special occasions and milestones in our lives. Finding the perfect attire for these events – a wedding, Easter, first communion or an anniversary/birthday – makes it special and fun for everyone. As you're shopping for the best look for your occasion, why not make it sustainable, too? Here are four ways you can make dressing up more sustainable. 

1.  SHOP CONSCIOUSLY

Look for items with sustainability and the end of useful life in mind. Clothes made of cotton, wool or silk are comfortable, natural and can be composted at the ends of their lives. Clothes that are well made may be more expensive up front, but they will last through many special occasions. Sequins and synthetic fibers are glamorous but not so great for the environment as they are heavy on chemicals and won’t breakdown in a landfill or compost. For kids especially, they can be uncomfortable – and nothing takes away the fun of dressing up like being scratchy and hot.

2.  REUSE

Look for pre-loved or resale opportunities on the website of your favorite brands - or - you may have a local clothing consignment store that will take your clean, pre-loved items.
